For many insurance companies, in order to properly insure your valuables, you will need a written appraisal from a professional. The appraisal presents detailed information about the pieces (description of piece, carat weight, quality, and measurement of gemstones, karat and weight of precious metals, brand logos and other markings, etc.) and their retail replacement value in case of loss.
